1.) Write about one 'CONFLICT' that one of the main characters is having in the novel you are reading. Be sure to include what type of conflict it is. Please note, that this wikipedia page is not 100% correct. The different types of conflicts should not say 'MAN VS', it should read 'PERSON VS'. You must state that your conflict is one of the 5 listed on this webpage.
2.) Go back to Assignment #1,2, and #3. Read all of the responses by your classmates. Then, you must comment on one of the students' blog posts by offering your opinion. This may be in the form of a suggestion on how they may improve their posts, or in the form of agreement to their post. You can tell them that you agree with what they said, however you must also include your reasons why you agree.
One conflict in The Hobbit is way in the beginning, before the adventure. This conflict is that Bilbo Baggins is trying to decide weather or not to go on the adventure to find the dragon treasure. The dwarves and Gandalf are trying to persuade him to go. If some complete strangers walked into my house and asked me if I wanted to go on a quest to kill a vicious dragon that no one could kill in a 100 years. a quest that I most likely won’t come back from, I would have said NO! But then again, Bilbo never does anything adventurous or even remotely interesting with/in his life. So he said yes, and that is the reason we have a story in the first place. This conflict is PERSON VS SELF because Bilbo is struggling and fighting with himself to decide weather he wants to go on the quest or not.

I agree with you that if someone randomly came into my house and said "hey love the tea Bilbo, oh and by the way do you want to come slay a dragon with me? Oh left out one important detail, it's vicous and nobody has been able to slay it and come back alive.....Any way great conlfict:)
ReplyDeletePERSON.VS.PERSON CONFLICT= In about the 2nd chapter there is a conflict when the characters are traveling and some trolls are in their way they sk them to move and they say NO! One of the characters gets into a scuffle with one of the trolls and ends up hurting the troll:.( Ya anyway this is PvP because the trolls and the characters fight.
ReplyDeletePerson vs. Person: While travelling through the goblin caves, Bilbo gets lost and knocked out when they are attacked by goblins. Later, he wakes up and travels until he meets a creature called Gollum. Gollum, being rather hungry, wishes to eat poor Bilbo and they engage in a battle of wit by testing each other with riddles. However, the winning question posed by Bilbo is perceived as unfair by Gollum, and thus goes to find a magic invisibility ring so that he can kill and eat Bilbo. Mr. Baggins, however, already found the ring, although he didn't know its power. He discovers this power by accident, and uses it to escape Gollum.
ReplyDeleteThis is a Person vs. Person conflict because the conflict is between two characters, as opposed to, say, person vs. nature, where they are battling the forces of Nature themselves.

ReplyDeleteA person vs person conflict in "The Hobbit" is when, Bilbo and his Dwarf and wizard friends run into a few Goblins at the Mountain-path. I'm thinking that the goblins wanted to eat them as they eat everything. The goblins were pinching, hitting and worst of all whipping poor Bilbo, the dwarfs and Gandalf the wizard! The prisoners had ridden their ponies there but unfourtunatly the goblins were very hungry and they ended up eating them. Bilbo and his companions tried to put up a fight but only succeeded in killing the head goblin and his companians. Which was NOT a good idea as this just made the goblins angrier! The goblins had them tied up for a few days, but with the help of Gandalf's magic they managed to free themselves and escape!! HOORAY!!:) This is a Person vs Person conflict because the goblins were fighting against Bilbo, the dwarfs and Gandalf!!!!!
ReplyDelete@hanna-you conflict post was very good. I liked your use of the word "scuffle" instead of fight. A suggestion i have for you is that I think that you could maybe add a little more detail and to make it longer. That is the only sugestion I have!! GOOD WORK!!!!:)

ReplyDelete@Luna – Good job at writing out a conflict from the story, you put down all that happened at the goblin mountain, excluding Bilbo’s little excursion into the heart of the mountain to meet Gollum. I also have to add that I don’t think they caught Gandalf, and I certainly do not remember them whipping him.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading through the other posts, I realized that everyone except Peeta (Who did a person vs. self conflict) did a person vs. person conflict, which is why I`m doing a person vs. society conflict. My conflict has to do with Bilbo the hobbit, and the way most hobbits live. Generally, hobbits are very mild and plain creatures, doing the same things over again to the point that some could be called predictable. They never did dangerous things, risky things, slightly hazardous things, just above safe things, or even travel abroad outside of their population. Then there`s Bilbo. He is of Took ancestry, and when the Took side of him takes over, he goes off on an adventure to go kill one of the world`s most dragon, in a far off land. After returning, though he didn’t tell them exactly what happened, most hobbits could guess generally what happened, and now label him a queer. This shows that the rest of the hobbits do not support what Bilbo did, and that he went against the way of his race.
