Plot curves are sort of like a mountain. They go up, and they come back down. The summit is the climax, the base camp being the introduction, the settlement of bedraggled climbers on the other side of the mountain being the conclusion, and the slopes being the rising and falling actions.
ReplyDelete1.) The novel starts with a slightly creepy old man inviting himself in for tea. Then, a group of loud and dirty dwarves comes in and eats up most of poor Mr. Baggins' supplies.
2.) The rising action is when they actually set off. Along the way, they meet a bunch of silly elves, take a break at the Last Homely House, go through the Mirkwood Forest, become clinically depressed, get captured by elves, and finally get trapped in a mountain, not knowing that the dragon was dead already.
3.) The climax is when the dwarves take over the mountain and go on a standoff with the elves and humans, who want compensation for damages rendered by the dragon. Suddenly, the evil guys (goblins and wargs) attack and there is an epic battle of epic proportions.
4.) After Bilbo recovers from a concussion, he discovers Thorin dying. After the two make up and Thorin dies, Bilbo and Gandalf set off to go back to Bilbo's home at Bag's End.
5.) The book ends with Bilbo trying to recover the items that have been auctioned off in his absence.
A plot curve is the outline of the story first there is the intro where the story begins, second the rising action what is leading up to the climax, then the climax which is the very height of the story where the most important thing happens, then the falling action which is leading to the conclusion, finally the conclusion where the story ends.

ReplyDelete1.) The dwarves as well as good ol' Gandalf are introduced here. They are portrayed as diverse, with some being happy-go-lucky and others being gruff.
2.) They also bump into some nasty trolls here. Here Gandalf finds his blade, Glamdring, and Thorin finds the blade Orcrist. Bilbo gets a little pocket knife, but to Mr. Baggins, the pocket knife is as good as a blade.
3.) Bilbo also betrays Thorin here, hoping to avoid any unpleasantries. However, when the goblins and Wargs attack, they are forced to fight anyways.
4.) Here, it is also revealed that Fili and Kili died defending Thorin.
5.) Bilbo also wrote his memoirs as he aged, and he lost his respectableness. He was also a friend to dwarves, elves, wizards, and the like for the rest of his life.
1. At the very beginning, Gandalf and the dwarves rush into Bilbo's house and tell him about their seemingly impossible quest. They get in to a heated discussion and reluctantly, Bilbo agrees to their proposition.
ReplyDelete2. The journey begins and off they head into the woods. There, they run into a gang of ruthless trolls. The dwarves and Bilbo with a little help from Gandalf, defeat the trolls and continue on their journey.
3. They Band of travelers cross the Misty Mountains But get intercepted by the Goblins. The others escape but Bilbo trips and falls. On the ground, Bilbo finds the ring which plays a large part in the rest of the series. Struggling to find a way out, Bilbo wanders into the lair of Gollum, a slimy creature who has lived in the caves of the mountains for a long time. The beast challenges Bilbo to a riddle game. Bilbo wins by asking "What have I got in my pocket." The answer is the ring which just happens to belong to Gollum. Then, Bilbo escapes by randomly putting on the ring and discovers its magical ability to make one invisible.
4. They find the dragon and ponder a way to defeat Smaug (the dragon). Meanwhile, Smaug flies away to a small town. The ruler, Bard defeats Smaug by sending an arrow whizzing toward a small weak spot on his bottom side.
5. The battle of the five armies! Bad guys vs the good guys. The epic battle between the goblins and the elves and dwarves. A battle that for a while seemed like evil would win when suddenly in burst the eagles and Beoar. The antagonists end up losing and retreating back. Bilbo ends up heading back home with many riches and luxuries!
@Peeta - I wouldn't say that number five was the right conclusion because generally the conclusion slows down and is rather (dare I say it?) boring. And while you may have thought that the Battle was kind of boring, conclusions are generally contemplative rather than violent.
ReplyDelete1.)In the intro, Tolkien is mainly just telling us what Bilbo’s lineage is, how hobbits look, and introducing the other characters like Gandalf, Thorin etc. by having them show up at Bilbo’s house unexpectedly, devouring all of Bilbo’s precious food.
ReplyDelete2.)In the rising action, the little group sets off for their share of adventure and treasure. On the way, they meet up with trolls, get captured by goblins in the Misty Mountains (also where Bilbo met Gollum and found the ring), attacked by Wargs, rest up at Beorn’s. Then, when they travel through Mirkwood forest, they are once again captured, this time by the ElvenKing, finally escaping and reaching Lake Town, where they are pampered and then leave to the Lonely Mountain, where Bilbo talks in riddles to Smaug, Smaug leaving to destroy Esgaroth, and Smaug dying, and the people of Esgaroth and the Elvenking besieging the mountain.
3.)In the climax, thing reach a climax, (Obviously) where our favorites dwarves and hobbit are reunited with Gandalf and they must work together with the dwarves of Iron Hill, elves of The ElvenKing, and the people of Esgaroth to fight against the goblin’s and wargs in the Battle of Five Armies.
4.)In the falling action, Thorin talks to Bilbo before he dies, taking back all he had said before when he found out that Bilbo had taken the Arkenstone. Then, Bilbo, accompanied by Gandalf and Beorn, head home along the top edge of Mirkwood Forest. When they get to Beorn’s home, they stay and rest for a while, and then head of again, until they reach the home of Elrond, known as the Last (or in this case the First) Homely House. From tere, they get to Bilbo’s home, Bag End, to find that Bilbo is presumed dead, and his possesions have been sold.
5.)In the conclusion, Bilbo is shown as living happily in his home, now a friend of elves, dwarves, and men, but no longer respectable and labeled a ‘queer’ among hobbits.
1.)INTRO=The dwarves and Gandalf come in and invite themselves in for tea and asks Bilbo (a hobbit) if he would go on a quest with them to fight Smaug, a evil fire breathing dragon that could not be conquered for over 200 years!
ReplyDelete2.)RISING ACTION= Bilbo and his "crew" go and start the journey to Smaugs mountain, They meet challenges along the way like battling trolls and having to kill mutant and deranged spiders wanting them for a midnight snack.
3.)CLIMAX= My personal opinion is that the climax to the story was when they were stuck in the castle and Bilbo had on his ring of invisibility, not when Smaug just randomly died that was boring! But When they were in the castle it was kind of exciting because they had to sneek around and they got sent down the river in barrels!
4.)FALLING ACTION= The falling action in the Hobbit is when Thorin gets hurt and when he is dying. He takes back everything he has once said that was negative about Bilbo. then they travel to Beorn's house.
5.)CONCLUSION= In conclusion Bilbo returns home and is what I would call a hero in his village type thing. Anyway he is home and has made new friends with the elves, dwarves, and lots of other people and he lives "Happily Ever After" THE END!!!!!!:)
Plot curve- A Plot curve is sort of like root of the story or the main and most important points. Starting of with the Intro which explains the beginning, then the rising action leading to the Climax the high point in the story Which goes on onto the falling action which finishes of with the conclusion and the story is done!
ReplyDelete1.)Intro-At the beginning Bilbo receives company, Gandalf and the 12 dwarfs. The dwarfs and Gandalf stay for the night and request Bilbo join them on a mission to find Smaug and the gold. Bilbo is not a adventurous person and says no right away, but after a bit of talking the dwarfs make him come and he has no choice but to say yes!
2.)Rising action- when they set of their journey they encounter many hurdles. For example further on into there journey they stop to rest, and they encounter 3 big, fat Burly trolls who think that the travelers are their dinner and plan to eat them, with the help of Gandalf’s magic they escape and continue on their journey. Also they have to escape Wargs and getting captured by thr Elvenking.
3.)2nd rising action- When the group of travelers come to the Misty mountains they are captured by the Goblins who live there. Gandalf manages to fight the goblins and free the dwarfs and Bilbo. But Bilbo gets knocked out and is out cold . When Bilbo recovers he finds a ring lying on the ground, hpicks it up and keeps it. Bilbo seizing this opportunity, runs and try’s to find an exit. He only managed to get himself lost. Wandering around aimlessly Bilbo walks into Gollum the beasts lair (more like a swamp with Gollum’s house in the middle). Gollum hears Bilbo and come out to meet him. Bilbo seeing him thought that he could help him escape but Gollum challenges Bilbo to a riddle contest and they go back and forth and Bilbo gets all of them right. The last riddle Bilbo asks is “what is in my pocket”. This question Stumps Gollum and Bilbo escapes invisible because the ring is a magic ring knowing this he escapes and finds his friends!
4.) Climax- The battle of the five armies! EVERYONE VS SMAUG THE MAGNIFICENT. In the battle of the five armies the Elvenkings army, Bilbo and the dwarfs,and the people of Esgaroth Fight till death against the goblins, the Wargs and Smaug the magnificent. The ruler of Esgaroth Barg kills Smaug by shooting him in the weak spot under his belly.
5.) Falling Action- I think that the falling action would be when Bilbo finishes his misson and heads home, only to find out that their was a rumour about him being dead so they sold all of his possesions.
6.) Conclusion- In the Conclusion Bilbo is living happily in his wonderful hobbit hole in Bag end, and friends with many dwarfs. I like books with happy endings! :)
@ everyone/myself- In the falling action I ment to add the part where Thorin is dying and makes up with Bilbo for all he said!

ReplyDelete1.)The story begins as Bilbo sits down for a cup of tea and biscuits when Gandalf and the dwarfs invite themselves into Bilbo's house and eat up almost all his food.

3.)The climax of this story is all about the epic duel of the good guys v.s. bad guys (Humans,Elfs,Goblins and Wargs).
4.) then in the falling action Fili,Kili and Thorin die and Baggins and Gandalf go home,only to find out there is a rumor going around about Bilbo being dead.
5.)Then in the end like almost all books i read the main characters live happily ever after in his hobbit house in Bag end! = } this story was awesome!
